Lettie the rehome Schnauzer

Lettie the rehome Schnauzer

I have blogged previously about a 6 year old Schnauzer rescue my parents have undertaken following the loss of their beloved mixed breed dog, Lucy.

Lettie, the Schnauzer rescue has been living with them in their house for 1 week now.  he is such a sweet little girl but very thin and nervous.  The suffering the dog must have been subjected to prior to being rescued by the Many Tears organisation and adopted until a suitable home could be found must have been unimaginable.

She will take a long time to trust my parents, in fact the mental trauma to the dog may be such that she remains untrusting.  It is so sad to see the results of uncaring breeders, whose only interest is the profit potental of continuous breeding.  The dogs in the ownership of unscrupulous breeders are just considered a valuable commodity and nothing more.

I myself, unknowingly, purchased a puppy farm dog, who, after investigation, turned out to be the sole survivor of a parvo virus outbreak. The ensuing damage to my puppy was not apparent until he was 6 months old and discovered when he collapsed with breathing difficulties.  A very serious heart condition was diagnosed, which resulted in him surviving on tablets for the remainder of his life.

One of the UK’s animal charities carried out an investigation into the breeding kennels I purchased him from following the ill health of many of the puppies purchased by unsuspecting owners.  The investigation uncovered a hideous act of cruelty in which many of the puppies were so ill they had to be PTS or suffered very poor health.

One lesson I learned the hard way was to never buy from someone who has pups without being able to see the Mum.

Sonny our Schnauzer was a very much loved family dog and saw his days out with us being taken good care of,  He sadly passed away in 2010.
