Guy Fawkes Night - Keep Pets Safe

Guy Fawkes Night on the 5 November is approaching fast, remember remember the fifth of November gunpowder, treason and plot.

Whilst most of celebrate the historical event with family and friends around a bonfire, eating hot dogs and soup and watching the sky light up with fireworks a huge number of pets are rigid with fear at the bangs and crashes.

Woody shows no fear of fireworks but Millie, my previous dog, an Irish Kerry Blue Terrier, would wet herself with fear and try and find a spot in the house to take cover.  It was so sad to see and we felt terrible for Millie at her distress.  In the town I live in fireworks are a weekly occurance to celebrate the activities on our seafront promenade which caters for families and day trippers.

If your pets are prone to distress from firework noise discuss with your vet who may suggest methods to calm your pet in the lead up to and during the event.

Where appropriate, keep all pets indoors and try to distract their attention with turning up the radio or TV
