Dognapping in the UK appears to be on the rise, no doubt other western countries are seeing a similar rise.
Why is it happening and how can we protect our pet from this crime wave.
According to reports freely available online it would appear that many pedigree dogs are stolen to order. Given the high prices of particular breeds our ‘4 legged’ friends can be viewed as valuable commodities to sell on. Financially motivated dognapping accounts for a huge portion of the missing dogs reported as missing.
5 top tips to protect your pet
1) Have ‘fido’ micro chipped
2) never leave ‘Fido’ tethered outside shops
3) Secure garden access
4) Do not engrave name of dog on identity disc
5) Have dog neutered/spayed to prevent them being targeted for breeding
If you and your dog are victims of dognapping the first course of action is to register the missing pet with local vets, loacl dog warden, police and with register dog with a missing pets register
