Is your dog less agile than he used to be? Have you noticed him limping?
He may have arthritis
Dogs and humans share a very similar muscular and tissue structure in their joints, making both susceptible to arthritis. The condition can rear its ugly and unwelcome head at any time.
Excess weight can cause stress on dog’s joint, therefore careful weight management can prevent the chance of them developing the disease later in their life.
Injuries sustained by accidents is also another cause of arthritis, underlying damage can happen to the muscles and tissues around their joints, causing undue stress.
It’s also possible that some joint misplacement could happen with an injury or accident – also causing stress and rubbing of bone on tissues, making arthritis inevitable in dogs.
A well balanced diet with the proper amount of nutrients can also minimize the risk of arthritis.
Dogs are very active animals and exercise is good but like humans they need adequate rest to avoid overworking the muscles and causing strain on the joints. If they don‘t receive proper rest it can eventually lead to arthritis.
Arthritis may be inevitable as old age creeps along in your dog but discussing symptoms and alleviating them with a veterinarian can help to keep your dog as comfortable as possible.
