Dogs Halloween Costumes

Are you looking for Halloween costume ideas for dogs?

Autumn is upon us right now and time for Halloween preparation for the family but should it include the family dog as well?

In the UK we have been slow to engage, however, shops are full to brimming with Halloween goodies.  I have decorated our house, but in comparison to the fabulous displays I have been privalaged to see in the US it pales into insignificance.

Woody will be sporting a pumpkin outfit when guest arrive for trick or treat this Monday.  His costume only cost £1 from one of the ‘cheap and cheerful’  low budget stores on the High Street. Read the rest of this entry »

THE PUPPY – Poem by Pam Ayres

I heard Pam recite part of this on the BBC’s One Show and thought it was very funny and needed to be shared with all of my good readers….enjoy!

I bought myself a puppy
And I hoped in time he might
Become my friend and ward off
Things that go bump in the night Read the rest of this entry »

Dog Leash

Dog Leash

When my Grandmother was growing up in the early 1900’s in London any dogs they owned never had such luxuries as a dog leash, not alone a collar.

Whilst researching information on leads I came across a site for the dog owner who has money to invest in a diamond collar for their beloved pooch, something else…whoa!!  I wonder if the British couple who won the Euro Millions last week have a pet fit for this kind of luxury. Consistency Is Key with puppy house training

There are very few dogs that can’t be house trained – just poor pet owners who don’t understand the value of consistency. You’re the most important element in successful house training for a puppy or adult dog that’s new in your home.

The dog is looking to you to set boundaries and rules, while also showing that he’s welcome in your world.  House training might take a few days – or it might take months – each dog is different.

Tin Tin's Snowy

Tin Tin's Snowy

Isn’t the dog Snowy, Tin Tin’s best pal, simply scrumptious?

Snowy is actually a white Fox Terrier but personally I think Tin Tin’s dog looks like a White Schnoodle.

Christine, based in Trelech, Carmathenshire, has a truly adorable litter of 4 white schnoodles looking for their forever homes, 2 males and 2 females.  We have posted about this litter previously.  The pups are £425 and Christine can be contacted on 01994 484477 or 07880978491 (Genuine enquiries only please) Read the rest of this entry »

Beaches for Dogs

Beaches for Dogs

Woody the Schnoodle and his Schnoodle Mummy have just come back from a walk on the beach.

Sadly in the UK dogs are banned from many beaches and the ones that don’t ban dogs can be few and far between.

Woody and I are fortunate that we live a stones throw from a beautiful beach and a daily walk to play with the stones is a daily occurance for us.

Don’t get me wrong I do understand that some irresponsible dog owners have made it necessary to ban dogs from family beaches.  This summer in our area proved a very strong case in favour of banning dogs from certain beaches.  A 7 year old child was very badly bitten and held under the water by an agressive, uncontrolled and unleashed Rottwieler.   Read the rest of this entry »

Melissa the Rescue Cocker Spaniel Puppy

Oh my goodness, how adorable are these 2 rescue Cocker Spaniel pups looking for their forever homes.

Woody and I were out on our evening walk this evening and we got talking, nothing unusual here, I could talk for England to fellow dog owners.  The lady I was chatting to had a beautiful black standard Schnauzer girlie called Indie.  Indie’s Mummy told me she was so delighted with her that she was ready to look for another dog to give a home to.  Me being me recommended the Many Tears Rescue site immediately.

As soon as Woody and I got home we went straight to the PC to look at what dogs we could feature on our site.  It was a tough decision because they are all so cute but Melissa and Mariah caught my eye.  The 8 week old pups both have visual problems and Melissa has got a deformed leg, which may need to be amputated at a later date. Dog feeding

Dog feeding

Owning a dog, from a cost perspective, does not just involve the initial purchase, there are many cost implications throughout the dog’s lifetime.

Firstly you need to establish a feeding routine for your dog and find a food that satisfies your budget and your dog’s nutrient requirements.

Where do you start…..discussing various food options with your vet is a good place to begin.  Another very good place to seek advice is your local pet store, many of the larger chains have an expert to hand who has been sent on pet nutrition courses. Read the rest of this entry »

Cute Puppy - To be loved and cherished, not to be eaten

Cute Puppy - To be loved and cherished, not to be eaten

Most dog lovers would find the comments made by River Cottage chef, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, tasteless, literally

His claims that eating puppy meat is no worse than eating a pork chop have sparked outrage.  According to an article in the Daily Mail on 1st October, Fearnely -Whittingstall, who regards himself as a ‘real food campaigner’ suggested that society has unfairly dictated which animals can be farmed and which can be kept as pets.  Read the rest of this entry »

Dog arthritis

Dog arthritis

Is your dog less agile than he used to be?  Have you noticed him limping?

He may have arthritis

Dogs and humans share a very similar muscular and tissue structure in their joints, making both susceptible to arthritis.  The condition can rear its ugly and unwelcome head at any time.

Excess weight can cause stress on dog’s joint, therefore careful weight management can prevent the chance of them developing the disease later in their life. Read the rest of this entry »
